|
Is this your first World Championships? What are your thoughts about the World Championships in Paris? |
This will be my third World Championships. I was 17 for my first one in 2004 and I went to Belgrade, Serbia for the 2010 World Championships. I look forward to Paris. With the Olympics in London right now, and the push for karate to be in the 2020 games, my motivation to do well in front of the world is at an all time high! Also, I've matured a lot since my first World Championships and feel more in tune with my body and know how to improve my strengths as well as correct my weaknesses. These next four months of training will be intense, but will definitely pay off!

My mother. Through the easiest and hardest times of my life and karate career; she's been there to selflessly support me emotionally. She's given up so much of her life and time for my brother and I; I can't thank her enough.

| Favorite Quote |
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
|
| Biggest Win. Why? |
I think my biggest past win for me was the 2003 Jr. World Championships in Marseille, France. Because of decisions between the French and American governments from the results of September 11th, 2001, the United States team was not very welcomed by the locals. I was the only one on the team to make it to finals and I remember walking out to a booing crowd. Finishing my kata, they were no longer booing, but cheering for me. It was surreal.
|
| What do you love about competition? |
Definitely the atmosphere of being around such high performance athletes.
|
| Favorite way to relax? |
Comfy Bed + Netflix + Big screen TV = bliss
|
| Advice for the youth athletes in karate? |
It took me a very long time to realize this, but be grateful if your Sensei or Coach continually corrects you and voices input on things you need to improve on. It means they want you to get better and they have hope you will do well in your career!
|
| Where do you get your inspiration from? |
Cheesy Hong Kong Kung Fu movies from the 70's.
